TOP 5s // Spots in the Sunshine // Evening

The other day, someone asked us what the best places for a drink or meal in the sun were, so we’ve begun to collate a few of our favourites.

1. The Street Food Collective

Lot 3, 130 Ponsonby Rd
7 days, 11am – 11pm

TSFC (17 of 17)

A green courtyard with twee furniture, a bar in a caravan and a rotating selection of delicious street food options.

2. Ponsonby Rd Bistro

165 Ponsonby Rd
(09) 360 1611

Monday – Friday // 12pm-late
Saturday // 4.30pm-late

There’s not many better places to watch a sunset on Ponsonby Rd but in the care of Melissa Morrow and her team – beautiful afternoon light and a beautiful wine list, with the very real potential of your visit stretching out late into the evening with an equally beautiful, unfussy meal.

3. Cazador

854 Dominion Rd
(09) 620 8730

Tuesday – Thursay // 6pm-late
Friday // 4pm-late
Saturday // 2pm-late

Cazador (5 of 8)

Most know Cazador as the quirky local favourite that specialises in game food, but you may not know that Cazador has a beautifully leafy outdoor courtyard, complete with festoon lighting and great tunes. Not to mention that bar snacks at this spot are some of the best in town – homemade terrine, parfait and house-cured meats, lamb’s tongue fries (don’t knock it till you try it), nan-e-bakshi (flatbread filled with herbs and cheese).

4. Odettes

Shed 5, City Works Depot
90 Wellesley St
(09) 309 0304

Monday // 7am – 4pm
Tuesday – Friday // 7am – late
Saturday // 8am – late
Sunday // 8am – 4pm

odettes (12 of 12)

Odettes has one of the nicest and most convenient outdoor dining areas in town, it stretches right across the City Works carpark, but the abundance of trees, grass, and the view down to leafy Victoria Park means you can forget the cars are there at all. It’s so big that you’re almost always guaranteed a seat, and the food is consistently great.

5. Pasta e Cuore

409 Mt Eden Rd
(09) 630 9130

Tuesday – Saturday // 11am-late
Sunday // 11am – 3pm

Pasta&Cuore (7 of 13)

This new kid on the block has one of the most glorious courtyards we’ve come across in years. It’s the combination of warm wooden furniture, greenery and Italian hospitality that makes you feel like you’ve been transported to Tuscany.
