Top 5s // The Weekender

Everyone finally seems to be back from holidays and the city is turning into a city again. With the corresponding great number of things to do.

Silo Park // Friday from 5pm, Saturday from 12pm
Cinema, Markets, Music

Things kick off at the city’s favourite inner city park tonight with the Endless Summer double feature. For lovers of surf and sand, and hungarian bread. Head down early to get a spot.

Tomorrow the Silo Markets are back from 12pm, with all the food stalls and cold beers flowing from the Silo Park bar. At 5pm, a very special concert called Kiwis on Board begins, it’s all about supporting refugee resettlement in NZ, and features Neil Finn, the Topp Twins, Thomas Oliver and more.

Summer in the Square // All weekend
Free vintage-inspired music, dance and food

Continuing the greatness of the chill zone at Aotea Square, the next three days is Vintage Weekend. Friday evening the Rocking Rollercoasters are playing until 9.30pm, the perfect sound track to a Food Space dinner. On Saturday things kick off at 12pm with performance from the NZ Opera, followed by free dance lessons from Swing Out Central at 7pm. The Society Jazz Men will keep the dance floor raging till 11pm with vintage tunes. Don’t miss local treasure Coco Davis on stage at 3pm on Sunday.

Federal St Summer Festival // Friday from 4pm, Saturday from 12pm
Fancy street food, P Money and more

It’s SkyCity Auckland’s 20th birthday, and they’re celebrating by closing off the street and having a big party to which we are all invited. There will be street food offerings from The Fed, MASU, Gusto at the Grand and more, as well as performances from P Money, and Diggy and Laughton. Keep track of the action here.

Victoria Park Markets // Saturday 9am-2pm

They’ve been back for a few months ago, but it still seems something of a novelty that the city’s only purpose-built, dedicated outdoor market space actually has a weekly market, after so many years of tumbleweeds and scaffolding. Pop in for crafts, artisan food, clothes, knick-knacks and delicious food. Keep an eye out for our pals at Judge Bao, they have your lunch sorted.

Anno Domini // Sunday 2.30pm

It’s allegedly sold out, but if you’re lucky enough to have tickets to the second installment of this summer rooftop festival at the Auckland Art Gallery, you’re in for a treat. See Dām-FunK, the American lord of the funk movement. Great tunes paired with delicious eats from one of our faves, Ceremony, and cocktails from one of our other faves, mea culpa. See, we told you, lucky.
